Job Description


This position is responsible for supporting the planning, design and implementation of security controls which safeguard and monitor events for Regional systems, Enterprise applications/systems and Active Directory. The Information Systems Security Engineer supports the execution of scans and security related tests, performs security logs analytics, and ensures that security controls are in place, operational and up-to-date.


* Adheres to SYKES policies on ethics and integrity.

* Assist in design, implementation and monitoring of complex infrastructure in a Windows environment with respect to access methods, access time, validation checks, organization, security, documentation and statistical methods.

* Review and assess stakeholder security objectives, protection needs and concerns, security requirements, and associated validation methods.

* Review and assess Windows system and Active Directory security requirements and associated verification methods per Risk Management Framework (RMF) standards.

* Identify and/or assess vulnerabilities and susceptibility to life cycle disruptions, hazards and threats.

* Works in close collaboration with SYKES' Security team to help plan, carry out SYKES security strategy. Partnership includes, but not limited to, incident response, Security tool evaluations/recommendations, reporting and compliance.

* Provide security considerations to inform systems engineering efforts with the objective to reduce errors, flaws and weakness that may constitute security vulnerability leading to unacceptable asset and revenue loss.

* Oversee the development of new systems and the configuration management of existing systems.

* Serve as a member of the Enterprise Systems Engineering team and perform technical activities for delivering effective host, network, data and application security services.

* Conduct security audits to ensure appropriate implementation and compliance of SYKES' security posture.

* Identify security requirements and provide input to the system design to ensure the proper controls are built in.

* Participate in planning and executing in the system development life cycle of new system cycles.

* Report system and Active Directory health to corporate leadership on a continuing basis and advise of necessary changes in strategy or operational direction.

* Provide a security impact analysis to include change to the overall system risk rating and posture and documentation that is impacted requiring updates.

* Incident Management Level 3 - Provide security support to include resolution and re-engineering.

* May perform other additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required qualifications, skills and experience


Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field and five (5) plus years' information systems security engineering experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) required; further Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) highly desirable.

* Demonstrated knowledge of Systems Administration/Engineering with proficiency in analyzing systems designs with a systems security mindset

* Familiarity with VMWare server and storage products, i.e. ESX, vSAN

* Flexibility including willingness to be "on call" after normal working hours

* Strong knowledge of Broadcom AV platforms

* Familiarity with web and reverse proxy solutions, i.e. McAfee MWG, TMG, BlueCoat, Snapt

* Strong knowledge of threats and vulnerabilities associated with cloud and on-premise systems security and Computer Network Defense

* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an ambiguous environment, and with both internal and external IT support teams

* Strong oral and written communications skills

* Strong analytical, problem-solving and proactive thinking skills

* High level of accuracy and attention to detail when managing and monitoring classified IT systems and documentation of system functionality

* Familiarity with Vulnerability Management tools such as ACAS, SCAP, STIG Viewer, Vulnerator or Nessus/Tenable

* Basic to moderate familiarity with Cybersecurity tools such as Splunk, Sumo Logic/Jask and Solarwinds is a plus

* Advanced level familiarity with Cyber Security Regulatory Compliance bodies

* Understanding of how to classify and prioritize the risk of new vulnerabilities based on the operating environment

* Ability to develop and maintain metrics and reports on vulnerability findings and remediation compliance

* Ability to facilitate proactive remediation or mitigation of new vulnerabilities by collecting information from threat and vulnerability feeds, analyzing the impact/applicability to our environment and communicating applicable vulnerabilities and recommended remediation actions to the impacted programs

* Continuous development of infrastructure and cloud vulnerability expertise to function as subject matter expert in multiple technical or business disciplines

* Experienced in conducting and managing functional, integration, usability, load/stress and performance testing

* Experienced with IT Compliance and Regulatory Standards (PCI, SOX, HIPPA, etc.)

* Travel of up to 10% may be required
